Overview
The statistics discipline at Renmin University of China was established in 1950, with the Department of Statistics founded in 1952 and the School of Statistics established in 2003. Through the efforts of several generations, our statistics discipline has achieved remarkable accomplishments and has become a flagship institution for statistical education in China.
The School adheres to the talent cultivation objectives of “excellence, depth, innovation, openness, and determination,” establishing a comprehensive, multi-level talent development model aligned with the demands of the times. The statistics discipline ranked first nationwide in both the 2007 and 2012 Ministry of Education First-Level Statistics Discipline Assessment. In the fourth national discipline evaluation in 2017, it received an A+ rating and was consecutively selected in 2017 and 2022 as a national “Double First-Class” initiative discipline. It is the most comprehensive statistics discipline in China, encompassing statistics programs across the three major academic categories of science, economics, and medicine. All four undergraduate programs—Statistics, Applied Statistics, Economic Statistics, and Data Science and Big Data Technology—have been designated as National First-Class Undergraduate Programs In 2025, the School was selected as a Ministry of Education Base for Cultivating Outstanding Students in Statistics.
