The discipline of statistics at Renmin University of China was established in 1950, with the Department of Statistics founded in 1952 and the School of Statistics established in 2003. Through 70 years of dedicated development, it has become one of the most prestigious statistics disciplines in China, ranking first nationwide in the Ministry of Education's discipline evaluation.

We maintain a multidisciplinary framework integrating humanities and sciences, supported by multiple interrelated research platforms. Our approach emphasizes rigorous statistical theory while advancing strong interdisciplinary applications across various fields. Cultivating a tradition of academic integrity, inclusiveness, innovation, and progress, our discipline has evolved from a singular focus on socio-economic statistics to an integrated development model combining socio-economic statistics with probability and mathematical statistics. We have expanded traditional domains into risk management and actuarial science, and pioneered new frontiers in biomedical statistics and data science. Currently, our academic portfolio spans mathematical statistics, socio-economic statistics, biostatistics, risk management and actuarial science, data science, and big data technology, making us the most comprehensive statistics school in China. We are also the first and only institution to integrate three major academic disciplines—science, economics, and medicine—within a single statistics faculty.

Looking ahead, our mission is to nurture high-caliber professionals equipped with profound statistical expertise, global vision, and social responsibility. We continuously innovate educational models to cultivate future leaders in statistics. In scientific research, we strive to advance statistical theory and methodology while promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across domains, aiming to produce groundbreaking contributions in both theoretical and applied statistics.
