Beijing Urban Population Physical Health Quality Index Officially Unveiled

On November 5, 2024, the Beijing Urban Population Physical Health Quality Index Launch Conference was successfully held, jointly organized by Renmin University of China's School of Statistics and Beijing Physical Examination Center. The event was attended by Yang Peiwei, Beijing Municipal Health Commission, Du Peng, and former Vice President of Renmin University of China and Dean of the School of Population and Health. The conference was hosted by Zhang Guohong, Director of Beijing Physical Examination Center.

The comprehensive index incorporates health examination data from over 1 million people aged 30 and above spanning from 2006 to 2022, utilizing scientific calculation methods and data anonymization processes. Associate Professor Wang Yu from Renmin University of China presented the key findings, revealing that Physical Health Quality Index scores across different age groups (30-44, 45-59, and 60+) remained relatively stable over the study period, though life adaptation ability scores were relatively low despite showing improvement trends. The analysis highlighted areas needing attention, particularly control of BMI, blood pressure, blood uric acid, cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein levels.

Medical experts from prestigious institutions participated in discussions, praising the index's innovation and its value for both individual health management and government policy formulation. The experts emphasized the index's potential for providing precise prevention strategies based on objective health evaluations and expressed hopes for future expansion to include additional indicators and broader population coverage, ultimately creating a comprehensive Physical Health Quality Index spanning the entire life cycle.
