Fifth Session of the “High-Level Forum on Government Statistics” Convenes
On September 26, 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics-Renmin University of China Research (NBS-RUC) Data Center and Center for Applied Statistics at Renmin University of China jointly hosted the fifth session of their High-Level Forum on Government Statistics, focusing on integrating government statistical work with academic statistical education.
The session featured Li Xiaochao, Vice President of the China Society for Economic Reform (CSER), whose keynote presentation addressed China's economy, including the growth and development, the continued relevance of GDP as an economic indicator, and the characteristics and necessity of transforming economic growth dynamics. The presentation combined theoretical frameworks with practical applications while incorporating both domestic and international perspectives.
The event concluded with He Yaomin, Director of the NBS-RUC Data Center, who provided insights on economic growth from historical, comparative, and contemporary policy perspectives. The forum generated significant engagement from academic participants, with active discussion focusing on development challenges, institutional frameworks, and policy considerations relevant to China's new stage of development.
